1.   General

     1.1 Corporation

The Association of Romanian Engineers in Canada is a chartered organization without share capital, incorporated on September 23rd, 2003

  1. Objectives of the Association:
  2. Raise awareness and promote the reputation of Romanian-educated engineers in Canada
  3. Facilitate professional and social interaction for the members of the association
  4. Help with professional advice and guidance towards meaningful employment and PEO certification
  5. Liaise with Canadian professional bodies and other associations with similar goals
  6. Develop links with appropriate counterparts in Romania
  7. Contribute to the economic, social and cultural development of the Romanian professional community in Canada

2.   Membership

  • Membership categories

There shall be four categories of membership in the association:

  • Professional – a person who meets all of the following criteria:
    • is of Romanian descent or has ties with Romania
    • has an Engineering degree or other type of degree from Romania or elsewhere
    • has paid the annual membership fee
    • Associate– a person who meets all of the following criteria:
    • supports AREC and shares its values, vision and mission
    • has paid the annual membership fee
    • Honorary – a person who has supported the association or have demonstrated outstanding services to the Romanian community in Canada
    • Student – a person who is enrolled in an undergraduate or master’s program at any of Canadian University or College
  • Nomination, applications and acceptance for membership
  • Application for membership shall be made on the standard online application form of the association. The application shall be reviewed by the Executive for acceptance and providing conditions for membership have been fulfilled, the Executive may approve the application. The applicant is then declared member of the AREC.
  • If the applicant for Professional Membership doesn’t provide the proof of degree, Associate Membership will be assigned until the required proof of degree has been submitted
  • Nomination for Honorary Membership shall be made by Executive AREC. Honorary members have all the rights, as members, but are excluded from paying membership dues
  • A member is considered in good standing while complies with the by-laws of the AREC and has paid the dues for the current year.

2.3 Termination of Membership

  • Membership shall cease in the event of resignation, death or expulsion.
  • Former members may resume their activities by submitting a new application to the Executive

3.   The Executive

3.1 President

  • Represents and promotes AREC at all levels to members, prospective members, and professional, social, and political organizations
  • Develops Association strategy and goals and facilitates the implementation of the objectives
  • Ensures the planning and budgeting for the future is carried out in accordance with the statute and the association priorities

3.2 Vice-president – Member Services

  • Oversees the membership policies and procedures
    • Leads the member outreach activities
    • Fills in when President is not available
    • Plans and manages the Annual Report development
    • Supports the Annual Report development

3.3 Vice-president – Events and Sponsorship

  • Oversees the planning and execution of professional development networking and social events
    • Leads the promotion and fundraising activities
    • Leads the planning and organization of AREC annual Gala Dinner
    • Fills in when President is not available
    • Support the Annual Report development
    • Support the Annual Report development
    • Support the Annual Report development

3.4 Secretary – Documentation

  • Ensures proper management and utilization of organizational documents and records

  • Gives notice of executive meetings distributes meeting materials and takes minutes

  • Maintains accurate documentation and ensures that all books certificates and other documents required by law are properly kept and filed

  • Fills in when Vice President is not available

3.5 Secretary – Membership and Sponsorship

  • Monitors and approves new member applications and ensures all approved members meet the membership requirements as defined in this Statute
    • Maintains accurate records of member and sponsor database
    • Leeds of the organization elections
    • Respond to inquiries from prospective members with regards to fees, benefits of membership; provide information and resources
    • Manages river AREC email account
    • Liaise and collaborate with the executive to ensure that all communication materials are sent on time
    • Fills in when Vice President is not available
    • Support the Annual Report development

3.6 Treasurer – External Relationships

  • Treasurer – External Relationships along with the President, receive bank signing authority
  • Oversees the funds of the Association in relation to external parties (sponsors, vendors, etc.). Ensures processing of AP/AR invoices
  • Liaise with the Treasurer – Internal Relationships to ensure updating of expenses and revenues
  • Reports on the Association’s financial standing to the Executive
  • At the end of the term of office the Treasurer shall assure that all documents under his/her charge and custody are properly transferred and accepted by the new treasurer
  • Support the Annual Report development

3.7 Treasurer – Internal Relationships

  • Oversees the funds of the association in relation to internal parties (members, event participants
  • Liaise with the Treasurer – External Relationships to ensure updating of expenses and revenues
  • At the end of the term of office the Treasurer shall assure that all documents under his/her charge and custody are properly transferred and accepted by the new treasurer
  • Support the Annual Report development

3.8 Marketing director

  • Oversees the Association brand identity
    • Develops and implements communication and marketing strategy
    • Develops communication and promotion materials for the Association, as well as professional and social events
    • Represents the association to external parties, such as other professional immigrant associations
    • Support the Annual Report development

3.9 Social Media Coordinator

  • Maintain the AREC social media accounts
    • Ensures the distribution of materials on social media platforms

3.10 Website Coordinator

  • Administers the AREC website, manages content and maintains web design
  • Liaise with social media coordinator to ensure consistency of content published on the website and social media platform

3.11 Event Coordinator

  • Reporting to the Vice-President Events and Sponsorships, coordinates the delivery of the Association professional and social events
  • Liaise with Treasurer – Internal Relationships to coordinate event registration

3.12 Employer Liaison- Corporate Engagement

  • Promoting relationships with the non-profit sector, companies and in general LMI-Labour, Market Information and related services

4.   Revisions to the Statute

  • Any statute revision proposal must be submitted during regular executive meetings
  • Proposal is discussed and accepted for revision or rejected with a majority of votes of the members present
  • Proposal accepted for a revision are shared with members in good standing for feedback. A poll maybe be included in the communication
  • The Executive reviews the member feedback and votes for adoption or rejection of proposed changes

5.   Elections

  • Elections will take place every two years in odd years
  • The mandate of all Executive positions is 2 years
  • When opposition becomes available the vacancy is advertised through the association communication channels. Information application procedure will be included
  • Application for term elections will be accepted during the October – December period of the year prior to the election year
  • Requirements for candidates to Executive positions:
    • President
    • Candidates must be Professional Members
  • Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary
    • Candidates must have one year of volunteer experience with the Association
  • The Secretaries will be responsible for all the aspects of the elections.

6.   Membership fees

  • Annual fees will be C$40 per year starting on January 1 and ending on December 31.
