Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail

The Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit Project is one of the largest transit infrastructure projects underway in North America. It is a 19 km LRT line that will run along Eglinton Avenue through the heart of Toronto, with a 10-kilometre underground tunnel in its central section. The Eglinton Line will connect Mount Dennis in the West to Kennedy Road in the East.

This first presentation will cover the construction methods and progress of preliminary works, including the move of tunnel boring machines, construction of launch and extraction shafts, headwalls, emergency exit buildings and cross passages along Eglinton. Our Speaker, Tibor Szekely will also share the challenges when constructing the west and east tunnels of the project.

Tibor Szekely, P.Eng. M.Eng. is the Director, Design and Construction for Metrolinx since 2010. He is responsible for the Design and Construction Management of Light Rail Transit and Bus Rapid Transit infrastructure projects as well as the Construction Management and Administration for the Eglinton Twin Tunnel Contracts. Tibor has been a manager and project manager at the Ontario Ministry of Transportation as well as a senior engineer for the City pf Hamilton. He has a Masters of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering specializing in Roads, Railroads and Bridges from the Technical University of Timisoara.
