Follow up to Connecting with Immigrant Talent webinar Skilled immigrants are an excellent source of talent for employers looking to create a diverse and innovative workforce. But knowing where and how to find this talent can be a challenge for some employers.

This webinar examines professional immigrant networks as a source of immigrant talent that can help employers meet business and organizational needs.

What Employers Need to Know:

Professional immigrant networks are volunteer-run, member-based associations or networks created by and for immigrant professionals

In February, TRIEC launched the PINs website, bringing together 70 immigrant networks, representing more than 30,000 new and established immigrants in the Toronto area. Through this website, employers can connect with networks from 11 sectors to connect to top talent or leverage global expertise.

Other immigrant employment councils, including those in the Waterloo Region, Ottawa, London, Calgary and Halifax, have either completed or will conduct similar searches of networks in their areas and these groups will also be invited to join the online community.

Employers can work with professional immigrant networks to recruit skilled talent, develop cross-cultural competencies of employees, raise awareness of the organization as an employer of choice and connect with new customer markets.

Watch the Webinar here.

Additional Resources:

Webinar Slides: Download a PDF version of the webinar slides.
Lists of other professional immigrant networks: You can find professional immigrant networks outside of Toronto, including British Columbia, Nova Scotia, London and Waterloo.

Immigrant Employment Networks: Immigrant employment networks in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick can help you connect with professional immigrant networks in your area.

Association of Romanian Engineers in Canada: This association works with employers in several ways, including posting jobs on its careers page and job postings page and participating in employer site tours and information sessions.

Racism-Free Workplace Strategy: This program helps employers find tools, workshops and useful information to help build inclusive, racism-free workplaces.

Forrest Breyfogle at ASQ Toronto Forrest Breyfogle at ASQ Toronto - Going Beyond Lean Six Sigma and the Balanced Scorecard course

Lean Six Sigma Canada and Smarter Solutions are pleased to announce you that Forrest Breyfogle will be in Toronto in September, 2012. (Details will follow.)

Here is how Forrest Breyfogle describes the event:

"The problem-solving methodology of Lean Six Sigma has helped companies improve many processes; however, because Lean Six Sigma is not a business system, many of these improvements are in organizational silos and the business as a whole often does not experience true financial gain from these improvements; e.g., we saved 100 million dollars but nobody can find the money.

What I am sharing with organizations throughout the US and the world is a Going Beyond Lean Six Sigma and the Balanced Scorecard methodology. This Integrated Enterprise Excellence (IEE) business management system methodology is a means to achieve this objective. IEE is described in my 2008 published 4 book-volume series ( http://www.amazon.com/New-Books-by-Forrest-Breyfogle/lm/R2NKBB32H32H3O/ref=cm_lm_pdp_title_full) and 2010 published Lean Six Sigma Project Execution Guide (http://www.amazon.com/Lean-Sigma-Project-Execution-Guide/dp/061534948X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1282835700&sr=8-1) .
In 1-hr evening meetings and 1-day workshops, I have been describing an enhanced system that makes reference to the how-to-execute methodologies described in my five book-volume series. These sessions are being sponsored by professional organizations such as ASQ, APICS, PMI, and ASA. Feedback from the sessions have been very great. All attendees to the 1-day workshop are taught from the five-book set, which is part of the course material.

The one-hour session is titled "Improving Project Selection using a 9-step Re-invented Business Maagement" System, while the one-day workshop is titled "Enhanced Roadmap for Lean Six Sigma Project Selection and Execution."
ASQ Grand Rapids Session Chair, Don Brecke said: "Forrest Breyfogle introduced his Integrated Enterprise Excellence (IEE) concepts to our American Society for Quality (ASQ) members at two ASQ Presentation events. His one-hour program, titled "Why Go Beyond Lean Six Sigma and the Balanced Scorecard" was delivered at the evening event and was well received. The next day, Forrest delivered his one-day workshop, "Going Beyond Lean Six Sigma and the Balanced Scorecard." Forrest was very engaging and did an outstanding job at both of these events. Our members gave Forrest exceptionally high marks and it was our pleasure hosting him in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Our section member leadership highly recommends Forrest W. Breyfogle III to other quality and excellence-minded organizations as a speaker/presenter."

ASQ Orange County Session, Ed Matthews , ASQ CQM, ASQ CSSBB and Certified Lean Expert said: "I have seen many groups within an organization struggle in aligning their Six Sigma efforts with business improvement results. The one day session offered by Smarter Solutions / Forrest Breyfogle that introduces the Integrated Enterprise Excellence (IEE) System shows how this gap between business goals and process improvement can be closed. I am looking forward to reading the series of books and learning more about IEE."

Ken Case, past ASQ president said: "What grandmaster chess is to checkers, Integrated Enterprise Excellence (IEE) is to the organizations improvement practices being deployed in most businesses today. Forrest Breyfogle's system provides a roadmap that blends analytics with innovation at both the enterprise and project execution levels. It makes Lean Six Sigma sing."

Here are some more events Forrest will be attending and presenting this spring:
• February 27-28 2012 ASQ Lean and Six Sigma Conference http://asq.org/conferences/six-sigma/
• February 28-29 2012 International Lean and Six Sigma Conference: http://www.iso9000conference.com/lssconfglance.html

How immigrants’ social capital affects their economic success in Canada A recent report written by Statistics Canada (2011) examines how immigrants' social capital affects their economic success in Canada. Social capital concerns individuals' personal networks and is thought to lead to better economic outcomes because personal networks are a source of information about jobs and business opportunities.

TAKE BACK MANUFACTURING What is TBM?

The ultimate goal of Take Back Manufacturing is to get government, educators and industry leadership to start working closer together to plan the recovery of the declining manufacturing sectors in Ontario.

SME Toronto has provided leadership for the TBM initiative, as we believe all Ontarians need to understand and support the recovery of a broad manufacturing industry base to provide a more robust platform for sustained innovation and best in class practices, and that without such a base we will not be able to support our economy in a competitive manner into the future.

We have formed an active TBM forum of a broad representation of Canadian technical societies, management associations, trade organizations and educational stakeholders.

We urge everyone to work closer together to plan the recovery of our declining manufacturing sectors in Ontario.

Let us explain how we are rapidly losing our prosperity via the decline in this important part of our economy, and what must be done to improve the Canadian business environment, focus and approach to better position us for success within the manufacturing sectors.

Nicholas Brousseau.

Strong GDP gains put to rest fears of recession OTTAWA-A surging energy sector gave a healthy 0.3 per cent boost to the economy in August, suggesting Canada rebounded much more strongly than believed during the summer, following a surprising dip in the spring.

Statistics Canada also upgraded July's gross domestic product a tick to 0.4 per cent on Monday, which places the economy on track to post a strong three per cent gain in the third quarter.

Following a 0.4 per cent contraction in the second quarter, and expectations of softness due to the market turmoil that took hold in early late July, some analysts had speculated it was possible for Canada to have suffered a technical recession of two negative quarters over the summer.

But that is no longer in the realm of possibility, given the bigger than expected numbers in the first two months.

"Even assuming a soft September, the quarter could come in at 2.9 per cent," said Avery Shenfeld, chief economist with CIBC World Markets.

"We still see growth slipping back below two per cent in the fourth quarter, but odds are increasing that the second half should end up well above the Bank of Canada's recent projection barring some new, unforeseen shock," he added.

Scotiabank's Derek Holt said the stronger two months means that September would need to have seen a disastrous 0.5 per cent retrenchment - and there were no signs that happened given the 61,000 pick up in jobs during the month - for third-quarter growth to have come in as weak as the Bank of Canada's call of two per cent.

"Indeed, the recession chatter of a few weeks ago looks pretty ridiculous in light of almost four per cent GDP growth in the latest three months.

The consensus of economists had expected a 0.2 per cent increase in August, and did not foresee July's revision.

However, August's expansion was not as strong in other areas - the agency noted the country's gross domestic product would have remained unchanged but for the 2.8 per cent jump in the energy sector.

Overall, industries tied to Canada's domestic economy did well, while those related to exports did not.

The financial sector, as well as real estate and insurance, retail and construction all posted gains.

On the flipside, manufacturing fell 0.4 per cent, wholesale trade 1.4 per cent, and transport and warehousing was also down slightly on weak foreign demand and strong dollar.

The public sector (public administration, education and health care) overall was unchanged, as was mining.

Economists were uniform in saying the stronger than expected state of the economy is unlikely to materially impact the Bank of Canada's position on interest rates.

Analysts still expect the central bank to keep its target overnight rate at one per cent until at least the middle of next year, and some say until well into 2013.

A Romanian Engineer is heading the HPVD Team to break the speed record
Hello,

My name is Victor Ragusila. I am currently a PhD student at the University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies (UTIAS), working on legged robots and how to achieve running motion with them. Before that i had graduated from UofT, Engineering Science division. I have also experience working in R&D, having completed a year at the Institute for Human and Machine Cognition (IHMC), working on a variety of prototype robots.

I feel it is important however to be involved in university clubs and teams. While an undergraduate student, i started a robotics team on campus, building underwater autonomous vehicles. Later, during my graduate studies, I worked on the team that flew the first successful human powered ornithopter, making news around the world. After that projectachieved its goal, together with some of the members of that team, I started the University of Toronto Human Powered Vehicle Design Team (UofT HPVDT).

The goal of the HPVDT is to promote, research and build human powered vehicle. We compete each year in the ASME Human Powered Vehicle Competition with a new high speed bicycle. In 2011, only our second year of participating, we achieved first place overall at this competition. The vehicle is able to negotiate obstacles, speed bumps and carry groceries. It is however not an average bicycle, as it has a maximum speed well in excess of 100km/h. We are preparing to find out exactly how fast it can go, by competing in the 2011 World Human Powered Vehicle Speed challenge in Nevada. On a 6 mile strip of flat, straight road, the fastest vehicles around the world try to beat the 132km/h world record. Our last year entry set the collegiate record at 102km/h, and this year's bike is much faster.

The trip to Nevada is from Sept 10 to Sept 18. I am looking for people and companies interested in helping us get there, by sponsoring us with the funds needed for air tickets and rental car. We can achieve good media exposure for any company interested. An article appeared in the Toronto Star on august 26th about our team. http://www.thestar.com/news/article/1045060--u-of-t-engineers-design-bicycle-that-can-top-100-km-h.

We are also working to have a reporter from the Star present at the competition in Nevada, as well as a crew from Discovery Channel. Beside media exposure, we participate in many campus activities, such as club fairs, presentations, etc.

Thank You for your consideration.

Victor Ragusila
2010-2012 Captain UofT HPVDT

Take Back Manufacturing On June 9th, 2011, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) facilitated the formation of an active Forum of a broad range of Canadian technical societies, management associations and trade union organizations.

The purpose of the Forum is to discuss and plan the roadmap to TAKE BACK MANUFACTURING in Ontario.

The Forum participants are deeply worried about the rapid loss of our prosperity via the decline of manufacturing in our economy.

The Forum provides a much broader representation of industry and educational stakeholders and they believe that to be positioned for success we must get our Government to focus on improving the Canadian business and educational environments.

Marie Laird, 2011 SME Toronto Chair stated: "Individually many organizations have been trying to get government to listen for years, but they've been largely ignored. We all need to understand that if you live in Ontario, the well-being of manufacturing affects you - whether or not you know it. Take Back Manufacturing is about having ONE voice and ONE agenda. It's about what we all want and need: Strong manufacturing in Ontario again."

Nigel Southway, SME Operations Manager stated: "Everyone knows the issues and the situation, but little has been actively done to fix it. We are very excited about the feedback so far from all the societies and associations we have invited to join the forum, and everyone involved believes it offers a great opportunity to combined efforts to getthings done. Similar groups exist in the USA and we are sharing data and approaches.

The ultimate goal of Take Back Manufacturing is to get government, educators and industry leadership to start working closer together to plan the recovery of the declining manufacturing sectors in Ontario.

Ottawa targets 1,800 in citizenship crackdown Ottawa intends to revoke the citizenship of 1,800 people it believes obtained their status through fraudulent means, Immigration Minister Jason Kenney says.

The decision to revoke citizenship is rare, and a large-scale crackdown such as this one appears to be unprecedented.
The people were identified through investigations conducted across the country by police and the Citizenship and Immigration Department. People identified by the investigations will receive letters informing them of the government's decision.

The move sends a "very clear message" to anyone who thinks of abusing Canada's citizenship system, Kenney said Wednesday.
"We are in the process of notifying them that we will revoke their citizenship because Canadian citizenship is not for sale," Kenney told reporters in Toronto.

Callatis 2011 la Roma Simpozionul Romanilor de Pretutindeni - Roma 2011

Roma va deveni in acest an Capitala românilor de pretutindeni, fiind primul an in care aceasta manifestare se organizeaza in afara granitelor României. In acest an, emigratia romaneasca da un semn de maturitate si stabilitate, organizand aceasta intalnire in tara cu cea mai mare comunitate romaneasca din lume.

Orice exces vine dintr-o lipsa. Adica in vechiul centru al lumii.

A Clear Guide to Highly Effective People Skills - SME seminar A Clear Guide to Highly Effective People Skills - The 3 dimensions of effective people
Monday, July 25, 2011!

Abstract:

First, one must sustain balance on the way to his or her goals, beginning from current reality, honestly appraised and understood to the best of our abilities (not always easy). As well, one must sustain focus on moving forward. Balance must exist between the positive goals and the drag we feel from hurdles we must honestly face. How fast one tries to progress must be balanced with the need to rest periodically, to keep in shape physically, mentally and spiritually to sustain the full path to success.

Second, one must sustain balance continuously among all five elements while he or she progresses. In the Compass these are shown at the four points - honesty, positive attitude, creative thinking, trial and error habit-building, with balancing shown at the centre where the balance between these would occur.

We invite you to attend this seminar to learn more from Dave Crisp, a former Senior HR VP, the current guru in training and coaching effectiveness individuals, leaders and organizations.

About Dave Crisp & Crisp Strategies Inc.:

Dave Crisp founded Crisp Strategies Inc. in 2002 to give people the easy steps to five key skills that help everyone (and their organizations) succeed faster and better and enjoy life more. Through seven careers, Dave developed hundreds of leaders, ultimately heading human resources at Hudson's Bay Company, a national top-25 employer, through 14 years and three CEOs. His people skills programs helped it become a "best company to work for" despite more than 110 mergers and re-organizations, nearly one a month. During that time he also led a ten million dollar Internet start-up that put joint ventures into six countries in 10 months. Earlier successes included improving one organization's performance more than 600% over three years.

Before the Bay, Dave directed Personnel and collective bargaining at two Toronto hospitals following a career in education, counseling and leadership, which included negotiating for and leading a large teachers' union group and ultimately running for Member of Parliament. Dave holds a BA in Psychology, a Masters of Education and the CHRP - Canadian Human Resources Professional designation - as well as various education leadership qualifications.

Locul 1 - recompensat cu Diploma si premiu in valoare de $300 se atribuie concurentului Mircea Vosneac, pentru creatia cu numarul 01;
Locul 2 - recompensat cu Diploma se atribuie concurentuei Loredana Dersidan, pentru creatia cu numarul 08;
Locul 3 - recompensat cu Diploma se atribuie concurentuei Iulia Carla Bompa, pentru creatia cu numarul 05;

Executivul AREC-SOC, Kitchener

Engineering job outlook through to 2018 Ottawa, ON. -- Engineers Canada has released a labour market study that shows the current and future market conditions in engineering. The study tracked current national labour supply and demand and includes a projection from 2010 to 2018, providing engineering students, universities, employers and governments with insight into labour market forecasts. (http://www.mromagazine.com/issues/story.aspx?aid=1000408612&link_source=aypr_MRO&link_targ=DailyNews)

Included in the study is information on qualifications and attribute requirements, along with career opportunities for those considering immigrating to Canada. For instance, while levels of immigration and Canadian graduation established in 2008-2009 are likely sufficient to balance markets across the coming decade, issues such as replacement demands related to retirements in many occupations will add to current challenges in recruiting experienced engineers.

The Engineering Labour Market Conditions 2009-2018 report is available online as a pdf document here. [http://www.engineerscanada.ca/files/engineering_labour_market_conditions_report_2010.pdf]

An Ethno-Cultural Approach To Mentoring The Association of Romanian Engineers in Canada (AREC) has launched a new mentoring pilot-program for the Romanian-Canadian newcomer engineers. The program is run by JVS Toronto and overseen by TRIEC, and starts with a new approach to mentoring, matching newcomers with mentors from the same ethno-cultural background. AREC is one of the five Professional Immigrant Networks that take part to the pilot-program.

The mentees Tiberiu Orban and Andrei Horga have great expectations from the program and hope it will help them find work in their field of expertise.

Tiberiu is an Electrical Engineer who has not worked in his field since he came to Canada. He hopes he will have the chance to learn a lot from his Romanian-Canadian mentor. "I will do my best in order to use the most of my mentor's knowledge, advice and support, hopefully resulting in me succeeding to reach my career goals," says Tiberiu.

As a Civil Engineer, Bogdan knows that it will take time and effort for him to be able to work in his field, but he is ready for the challenge. "I had heard about AREC and when I came to Canada it was the first place I went for help and advice. I am confident that the mentoring program will give me the knowledge and confidence I need to build my career."

Ileana Cioc is thrilled to participate to the program as a mentor. "When I came to Canada 10 years ago, such programs did not exist. I am glad I can share my experience now and help a newcomer succeed."

Emil Caraghin is also enthusiastic about him being a mentor to a Romanian-Canadian newcomer. "I am happy that my experience will help others accomplish their goals," says Emil.

The pilot-program is coordinated by Victoria Bularda, who has been a mentor to newcomers for more than five years. "As a mentor, I have collaborated in the past with various non-profit organizations. Working with AREC, JVS Toronto and TRIEC is an opportunity for me to help others and learn at the same time."

The pilot program is open to newcomer engineers of Romanian background and will run for four months.

Astfel,

- carnetul de muncă respectiv;
- o împuternicire în care să fie menționată identitatea titularului carnetului de muncă și a persoanei împuternicite;

Toate cele bune,

CANADA ARE NEVOIE DE APOSTILA Stephen Woodworth

CANADA ARE NEVOIE DE APOSTILA

Ion a imigrat in Anglia, Gheorghe a imigrat in Canada (unde a devenit George), iar Maria a ramas in Romania sa aiba grija de parintii in varsta.

Ion a primit o copie in Anglia ca sa dovedeasca ca nu are proprietati in Romania.

In primul rand certificatul canadian e trimis la Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade din Ottawa pentru autentificare.

Care e mersul apostilei in alte tari? Iata cum merg lucrurile in doua state federale semnatare ale Conventiei de la Haga. Australia a semnat conventia si a folosit apostila incepand din 1988. Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Commonwealth of Australia e singura autoritate centralizata cu agentii in fiecare oras mare din Australia.

U.S. Department of State Authentication Office pune apostila pe documentele emise de agentiile federale.
