Manufacturing Manager, Machine Shop

SUMMARY
Reporting to the Production Manager, the Manufacturing Manager - Machine Shop is responsible for the supervision and daily operation of the Machine Shop.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
 Supervise, train and motivate all assigned Machine Shop personnel
 Create and maintain an up to date skills matrix for all Machine Shop personnel (updated annually) in order to ensure that all positions are covered in time of absences thereby protecting customer delivery dates
 Schedule all production work assigned to this department
 Ensure Sales and Stock Orders are complete and manufactured on time
 Monitor progress of work and identify corrective actions or recommend solutions
 Improve the manufacturing process in collaboration with Engineering by making improvements in product for ease of manufacture and quality enhancement
 Participate in the hiring of new employees and in the annual review process
 Improve facilities, machines, tools, tool setups, fixtures, jigs, controls and mechanisms in order to obtain better work
 Observe safety conditions at every point of possible danger and promote strong safety and awareness wherever needed
 Personally inspect the quality of the work of each employee to make sure that quality is achieved, regardless of other inspection routines
 Personally inspect the quality of all Machine Shop facilities, building, floors, walls, windows, roof, equipment, machines, and other assets so as to prevent their breakdown or danger to employees.
 Work with Production Manager of any manufacturing or production issues affecting the following scheduling, safety, personnel performance and productivity, quality of work, capital equipment and other expenditures
 Along with the Purchasing department, source and evaluate Sub Contractors to undertake machining to ensure we meet contractual agreements during times of high work load
 Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
 Minimum 5 years supervising a machine shop with both manual and modern CNC machines
- horizontal boring machine experience would be advantageous.
 Management/leadership experience in a machine shop environment.
 Certified Engineering Technologist (OACETT member).
 Fully conversant with setup and tooling.SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
 Solid understanding of machining, tool design, milling, welding, turning,and basic metallurgy as well as CNC programming.
 Ability to plan and execute work flow.
 Knowledge of and ability to use quality inspection tools.
 Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and nomenclature.
 Understanding of safety legislation.
 Solid leadership skills and ability to motivate and discipline staff.
 Familiar with Microsoft Office products - Word, Excel, Outlook.

Applications Engineer/Specialist

SUMMARY
Reporting to the Manager, Project and Applications Engineering, the primary responsibility of the Applications Engineer/Specialist is to perform Engineering activities necessary for the completion of customers' orders, including defining and planning work, monitoring and expediting progress, ensuring that equipment is properly inspected, tested and packed, and coordinating project activities on an interdepartmental basis. The secondary responsibility of this role is to perform on-site commissioning services, annual service, and emergency service. Worldwide travel will be required.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 Work with the Sales team to define the scope of supply for the project
 Configure and adapt KELK products to meet specified requirements
 Lead the effort with the Drafting department to create the drawing package for the project
 Coordinate with the Production team to insure the project is built and tested to specification
 Provide a leadership role in the Factory Acceptance Test and in house customer training
 Provide Installation Supervision, and Commissioning at users' sites
 Carry out Site Acceptance Testing and Commissioning Sign Off
 Deliver scheduled and unscheduled field service
 Provide technical assistance to Production
 Perform design maintenance activities on KELK products
 Participate in new product design activities

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited university or post-secondary education (diploma) in a technology field with appropriate experience required.

Mechanical and/or Electrical aptitude necessary PEng., E.I.T. or similar designation desired

Minimum 3 years of experience with control, automation and electromechanical products and systems in an industrial, automotive, or aerospace environment, preferred.

REQUIREMENTS
A sound awareness and experience of industrial safety procedures is required.
Must hold a valid passport
Able to travel worldwide, both scheduled and short notice travel, duration 1-4 weeks
